He was raised as an only child in a single-parent household, which came with many challenges. Music was always an outlet Haji used to escape reality when things got tough. Aside from music, Haji was also very interested in entertainment itself. Over the course of his career so far, Haji Outlaw has dibble dabbled in various artistic endeavors including comedy shows, music production, and writing.
Despite being deeply engulfed in the entertainment industry from childhood, Haji actually comes from a family of educators. Growing up, they always stressed the importance of having an education and being the best you can be. For that very reason, he never wavered in grade school and went on to college to pursue higher education. He spent his college years at FAMU where he obtained a degree in electrical engineering and was also a key member of the University's baseball team.
Shortly after graduation, Haji reached a crossroads. Although excited about receiving his bachelor's, Haji knew he didn't want to pursue a career in electrical engineering or end up at a cubicle. He wanted to do something not only fulfilling for himself but impactful to others in a positive way. After some soul-searching, he finally decided on stand-up comedy. He went back home to Chicago to start his newfound love. There he went on a slew of events throughout the Midwest as an opening act for mainstream comedians at comedy shows as well as many other entertainment gigs such as CBS, NBC, the Detroit Comedy Festival, and The Eric Andre Show. He even wrote a series of independent ebooks available now.
Haji Outlaw started thinking of music in a critical way when he heard the track entitled "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air himself Will Smith. This was the first production where he witnessed music, melodies and comedy blended so seamlessly together. It was here where he started to find his niche in the industry - combining music production with comedic expression. This is profiled quite evidently in one of Haji hit tracks titled "Tits No Bible" available now on most major music streaming platforms. In this record, he brilliantly challenges traditional judicial procedures such as swearing in under oath on a Bible. With witty punchlines as well as a harmonic melody Haji Outlaw playfully shifts our perspective on things we often overlook or simply dismiss as standard protocol.
All in all, Haji Outlaw strives to be a positive force in the world around him. The main objective of his craft is to make people laugh and also give them a musical experience that treads along a less beaten path. As he says himself the message he is trying to convey is simple, "comedic hilarity over fire beats". He wants to broaden the mind of the average music consumer to all the possibilities that music can have. He also hopes to inspire many people about Miami Radio Culture just like those that have inspired him along his journey to constantly think outside the box and take innovation to whole new heights.
