Dre-Ski himself, however, was much more into the rap scene of the late 90s and early 2000s. Some of his biggest musical influences growing up were Jay Z, Fabolous and Clipse. He would listen to Jay-Z's "Reasonable Doubts" album on repeat for hours on end studying his lyrics and flow. He grew much respect and appreciation for their creativity, witty bars and metaphorical nuances. These were the major inspirations in Dre-Ski's life that changed music from just a hobby to a full-fledged career.
In 2015, he started his own independent record label called "XB Music Group LLC". He began rebranding, recording music and reintroducing himself to the world as an indie artist. As time progressed, he developed his own unique style which he describes as a mix of J. Cole and Fabolous. He drops lyrical "jewels" throughout his music to connect with the youth, especially young black men who face many trials and tribulations as citizens of the United States. At the same time, his witty delivery showcases the talent and creativity behind the messages.
One of the best illustrations of Dre-Ski's genius is one of his latest releases entitled "Real Kings" available now on all major music streaming platforms. He talks about the struggles of black men on their way to greatness and self-actualization. He reminds them to fix their crowns when they get knocked down and continue persevering. On this journey to be a famous hip hop music artist, called life many will try to deter us from stepping into our true power - we must stay focused. As Dre-Ski himself would say "on the road to riches and diamond rings, real Kings do real things".
Through music, Dre-Ski aims to speak on the social issues impacting African American men on a daily basis. He wants to relate to the common person, to let them know that you can still be yourself and not change into someone you're not. He believes this is the most critical aspect of our society since the evolution of social media and it's known impact on young kids' mental health issues. The power of influence is a real thing. His music is a prime example of that.
Aside from Real Kings, there are four other tracks out right now from his recently released EP entitled "4 Real Ones Only".
